April is Autism Awareness Month. All month long those who have autism like me are honored by wearing blue shirts and things like that. What I think is most important for this month is that people know more about what autism exactly is.

Something that I want more and more people to understand is it is not a bad thing at all. It just makes things more challenging for me. I remember that my mom stopped reading books about autism because the people who were writing weren’t being positive at all.  My mom educated me about autism through books and videos prior to telling me that I had autism.  This prepared me, so when I found out, I didn’t think it was bad at all.

Another reason why I think autism should be known to people is so more people can help them. I had many role models like my parents who helped me in many things including school. Now, thanks to them I am independent in almost every school subject. I am very glad I had the opportunity through this post to hopefully raise more awareness of autism on this special month.
